Reflection – Elée Ferré

The drawing is a visual exploration where Elée Ferré captures the elusive and elevates the ephemeral. Through this interplay of light and vibration, the artist offers us a dreamlike and sensory vision of water, where reality dissolves into a constellation of floating glimmers. This work does not seek to depict water as it is, but as it reveals itself in the moment, beneath the shifting appearances of night.

Water Collection, Stunning Encounters.
What does water reveal in a city at night? Lights reflect on it, making us perceive this element in an unexpected way: distorted, fragmented, dressed in a completely different manner than during the day. Such a contrast was a powerful invitation to explore how water dons its nocturnal finery.
Depth disappears, the surface shimmers and dominates the view, the current becomes subtle, only the ripples move. Elée Ferrée

Review of "Reflet" by Elée Ferré

Blue, gold, yellow, and metallic inks on recycled paper – 50 x 75 cm
Water Collection, stunning encounters

With "Reflet" (Reflection) , Elée Ferré immerses us in a nocturnal vision of water, where urban lights diffract and recompose into a multitude of fragments. Far from a realistic representation, the artist captures the shifting essence of reflection, this elusive dialogue between light and liquid surface. Water, a changing and elusive element, becomes here a vibrant screen, a play of appearances and disappearances.

The originality of this work lies in its fragmented and ethereal style, which does not delineate a single body of water, but rather evokes its multiple facets. The visual frame is abolished, and the image gradually emerges from the void, as if floating in space. This choice reinforces the impression of transience, reminding us that reflection is never stable, that it is constantly transforming under the influence of the current and vibrations.

The interplay of colors, blending blue, gold, yellow, and metallic inks, subtly captures the variations in light characteristic of night. The gold and yellow shimmer, contrasting with the deep blue that evokes the night. The use of metallic inks accentuates the shimmering effect, creating a visual texture where the eye perceives flashes that shift depending on the viewing angle and ambient light. This approach recalls the effects of opalescence and diffraction, where the water's surface becomes a luminous skin that masks its depth.

The technique employed—pen, markers, and quill on recycled paper is part of a precise and spontaneous approach. The delicate, discontinuous lines suggest the rippling of ripples, while the overall texture reveals a fluid space, free from rigid frames or fixed structures. The recycled paper support adds an organic and humble dimension, in keeping with the sensitive exploration of the materiality of water.

What is also striking about "Reflection" is the erasure of depth. Unlike daytime waters, where one perceives immensity and the depths, here everything unfolds on the surface. The current is subtle; only the light reveals its delicate ripples. This effect lends the work a silent poetry, a suspended moment where the water becomes a mysterious veil, adorned with nocturnal, elusive, and captivating splendor.
