Mauve Diamond — The blossoming of a botanical jewel, by Françoise Dugourd-Caput,
With Mauve Diamond , Françoise Dugourd -Caput continues her intimate exploration of the plant world through macrophotography. Here, her lens plunges into the heart of a woolly woundwort, a discreet and hairy plant, to reveal its unexpected splendor. It is no longer a flower, but a natural jewel, a crown of droplets, suspended in a soft, violet light, as if illuminated from within.
The water droplets here become veritable precious stones, set on the velvety stem like a baroque jewel. The extremely shallow depth of field isolates the plant from any context, reinforcing the almost theatrical effect. The dark, mauve-hued background highlights the crystalline luminosity of the water droplets, giving the whole scene an almost mystical aura.
Between science and poetry: this work possesses a fascinating tension between the gaze of the naturalist, who meticulously observes the surface of living things, and that of the poet or painter, who magnifies, transfigures, and sublimates. Here, vegetation becomes abstraction. Morning dew transforms into the brilliance of a diamond, and living matter evokes textile textures—velvet or felt—that silently converse with the light.
The elegance of the invisible: printed on PVC and simply framed, Mauve Diamond embodies an aesthetic of precious fragility. The image captures a fleeting moment—when the dew, still pristine, has not yet melted in the sun—and transforms it into an object of contemplation. The gaze is suspended, captivated by the unexpected richness of an often overlooked detail.
