Baisong Wang
Baisong Wang , a prominent figure in contemporary Chinese painting, was born in 1952 in Benxi, Liaoning Province. From a young age, he developed an artistic sensibility nurtured by the majestic landscapes of his homeland. Graduating from the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 1982, he was introduced to the major currents of figurative painting and began to refine his own style, marked by a mastery of the realist school while retaining a free-hand, spontaneous approach.
Between 1986 and 1996, Wang Baisong traveled through China's iconic mountains and rivers, capturing their grandeur and mystery through a continuous exploration of nature and art. This aesthetic pilgrimage nourished his work, allowing him to develop his talent while forging a deep connection with Chinese landscape traditions.
In 1996, he settled in Beijing, the cultural and artistic capital, where he devoted himself entirely to creating oil paintings. His career took a decisive turn in the early 2000s, a period during which his works were exhibited at the China Art Expo and the Beijing International Art Fair, winning several awards. In 2003, he held his first solo exhibition at the Beijing Ancient City Art Museum, cementing his reputation as a major artist.
The year 2005 marked a turning point in his career with the awarding of the gold medal for oil painting at the Beijing Art Exhibition, crowning his monumental work "Autumn Colors of the Mountain Stream," later acquired by the American Embassy. His recognition extends far beyond China's borders: his creations are collected by numerous embassies, such as those of the United States, Australia, and Ukraine, as well as by art enthusiasts in Southeast Asia and international institutions.
The recognition of his talent reached its peak in 2009 with the publication of the " Wang Baisong Oil Painting Collection" by Tianjin Popular Fine Arts. That same year, the National Art Museum of China held a solo exhibition dedicated to him, " Wang Baisong : Master of Ink of the World," and permanently acquired his work "After the Rain in Nanxiang," thus adding official recognition to his artistic contribution.
Between 2010 and 2012, his studio in Beijing's 798 Arts District became a key location on the art scene, attracting both critics and collectors. In December 2013, a new solo exhibition, titled "Beautiful Mountains and Rivers," was organized by the Jimei Art Museum in Liaoning, further solidifying his influence in the fine arts.
Over the years, his works have appeared in various specialist magazines, such as "Collection" and "World Art", and have also been published in prestigious anthologies, such as the "Shengshi Collection" in 2011 and the volume "Chinese Modern Art" in 2012. His career is punctuated by distinctions, rewarding the depth and richness of his work, always imbued with a profound reflection on the link between nature and humanity.
In 2024, true to his artistic commitment, Wang Baisong once again participated in the Beijing Art Fair, where his work "Drunken Autumn" was chosen to adorn the official invitation, undeniable proof of his undisputed place in the pantheon of great contemporary Chinese painters.
