Description of the work “Azulejo”
The work of the artist Amélie Vogelcombines natural forces in a harmonious and poetic composition. This abstract diptych nevertheless appears figurative and is distinguished by the subtle use of color and texture, creating a dynamic interaction between the different elements present on the canvas.
The work is marked by projections and superpositions of a deep blue tone, earthy shades and luminous white touches. The sinuous lines and organic shapes evoke fragments of landscapes or unstructured mosaics, recalling the traditional Portuguese azulejo tiles, from which the work takes its name. This cultural reference is subtly integrated and transformed by the artist's distinct technique.
Amélie Vogel works with the material with an approach close to sculpture, using transparencies to establish “silences” in the composition, breathing spaces which contrast with the density of the textures. The balance between positive and negative spaces is carefully orchestrated, giving the work an intrinsic rhythm and a feeling of perpetual movement.
