Grey Pearl – Françoise Dugourd-Caput

Grey Pearl is a photograph of the infinitesimal, a fragment of nature sublimated by light and silence. Through this work, Françoise Dugourd -Caput reminds us that wonder often arises from what escapes the hurried gaze: a dewdrop, a fold of leaf, the softness of velvety vegetation.

Grey Pearl — An intimate exploration of living matter, by Françoise Dugourd-Caput

In Perle grise (Grey Pearl) , a photographic work created in 2015, Françoise Dugourd -Caput invites us on a sensory journey into the heart of the minuscule, where the plant becomes matter, almost mineral, under the effect of the dew. Captured in macrophotography, the woolly woundwort, a humble plant with medicinal properties, is transformed here into an organic sculpture, bathed in soft light and aquatic reflections.

A sensuality of textures: the subject of the image seems to emerge from the blur, surrounded by deep shadows and a dreamlike background. On the velvety foliage, water droplets clump together like glass beads, accentuating the tactile sensation of the surface. The carefully controlled lighting reveals every roughness, every fiber, every undulation of the leaves, in a limited chromatic range from silvery gray to muted violet.

A hushed, suspended silence: the deliberately off-center composition leaves ample space for emptiness and mystery. This blurred background, highly pictorial, creates a quiet and focused atmosphere, as if the viewer had frozen the breath of an imperceptible moment. The image does not document; it suggests a presence: that of an invisible world, made visible by the artist's patience and keen eye.

An aesthetic of discretion: Françoise Dugourd -Caput works here within the poetic tradition of naturalist photography, but with a resolutely personal vision. Far from any technical demonstration, she prioritizes sensation, proximity, and awakening the eye to the fragile and the ephemeral. The printing on PVC, with its matte and deep finish, contributes to this quest for visual intimacy, at the border between dream and reality.
