Structure 29 – Jicé

The work is a look at the passage of time. An expression of industrial greatness when it meets wear and tear. Although barely visible, poetry is omnipresent in this composition. Jicé is the artist of a certain working-class aesthetic. He manages to sublimate the old industrial world to make it the scene of a reflection on the memory of man.

Review of the work “Structure 29” by Jicé

Jicé immerses us in a vertical composition where industrial material is deployed in layers, evoking the progressive disintegration of urban architecture and the permanence of a world in transformation. The work, through its narrow and elongated format, imposes a vertical visual journey which amplifies the effect of depth and immersion in this urban landscape. The metal structures dominate the pictorial space, reminiscent of bridges or tangled walkways, emblematic of an industrial charm. It’s this kind of style that runs through Jicé’s entire artistic approach.

The artist's palette, subtly graded with yellows, ochres and blacks, suggests light filtered through industrial mists. The metallic shades, with their sporadic red flashes, punctuate the composition and introduce a contrasting dialogue between organic and inorganic elements. This chromatic choice reinforces the atmosphere of wear and abandonment, where each rust stain and each material degradation tells the story of a civilization which leaves its mark on the infrastructures it has erected.

The integration of numbers and letters, like the “29” present on the canvas, adds an enigmatic dimension to the work. This style is on the border between pictorial art and urban writing. These typographic fragments evoke a code or a technical signaling element. It connects the work to a functional and pragmatic reality. It underlines the capacity of art to transcend these signs to make them aesthetic objects.

Jicé handles the technique of oil painting with great mastery. It accentuates a feeling of controlled decay, where layers of paint seem to accumulate or recede. The artist accompanies, through his pictorial intuition, the progressive deconstruction of these structures. We feel in this work a certain melancholy linked to the obsolescence of the industrial world, but also an admiration for its robustness and its resilience to defy time.
