Out of bounds – jicé

This powerful work invites us to reflect on the place of contemporary urban planning. By staging massive constructions in elevation, Jicé questions the way in which man shapes his environment. The absence of human figures further accentuates this feeling of questioning in the town square. Jicé, once again, manages to express the raw and poetic beauty of the modern city by reinterpreting it through a deeply personal aesthetic prism.

Review of the work “Hors Limites” by Jicé

In this painting, Jicé transports us once again into his urban and industrial world. The city has an ethereal atmosphere. This 100 x 100 cm work is distinguished by the subtle use of colors and a harmonious geometric composition.

The dominant element of the composition is this imposing blue structure which rises to the left of the canvas. She immediately catches the eye. This deep blue contrasts sharply with the softer, more wispy palette of the gray and beige backgrounds. It creates a visual tension which evokes the solidity and rigor of the buildings. This verticality gives a feeling of infinity, a bridge between sky and earth. It is not clear where the structure begins and ends.

The rest of the composition is more diffuse, almost hazy. It accentuates the idea of an urban landscape under the snow which fades into the fog. Jicé manages here to mix figurative and abstract elements. The structures seem to dissolve in a cold white light, which could evoke dawn or a winter's day. The straight lines in the foreground are reminiscent of traces left on a surface of wet snow. They add tension to the work, recalling the poetry of winter.

This painting falls into a form of industrial aesthetic which characterizes Jicé's work. In this work, the composition is distinguished by the representation of a city whose boundaries are poorly defined, hence the title of the work. Here, the artist plays with the idea of boundaries, between the environment and the imagination. The city, far from being fixed, becomes a space in constant mutation, sometimes solid, sometimes immaterial.

The choice of blue in this work is significant. Used to signify a certain urban coldness, it interrupts the natural colors and evokes an indistinct structure, both physically and symbolically. Blue, often perceived as a color associated with infinity and spirituality, creates a paradox here: a rigid structure that invites elevation and dissolution in the sky.
