In my city – Jicé

This painting demonstrates Jicé 's expertise in representing urban environments. He injects it with a personal and emotional dimension. The work is both a work on the image of architecture and a reflection on the place of man in these vast urban spaces. Despite their monumentality, according to the artist, there emerges a certain fragility which inspires a form of poetry.

Review of the work “In my city” by Jicé (100 x 100 cm)

The work presents an architectural vision that is both majestic and dreamlike of a modern city, bathed in soft and diffused light. At first glance, we immediately notice the monumental structures which stand vertically with a bold use of plunging perspective. Jicé, faithful to its industrial aesthetic, here offers an urban landscape where buildings and metal bridges meet in a harmonious composition.

The dominant shades of blue, beige and gray, punctuated by touches of pink and gold soften the whole. These colors create an almost unreal atmosphere, where urbanity meets a form of softness rarely associated with industrial landscapes. The choice of blue, in particular, to represent the metal structures, gives these shapes an unexpected lightness despite their architectural solidity.

The oil on canvas technique is used here to play with textures and surfaces. Jicé skillfully superimposes layers of paint, sometimes seeking transparency. The whole thing gives the impression that certain parts of the city are disappearing into the fog, while others emerge in full clarity. The contrast between the precise lines of the buildings and the more abstract areas of reflections or shadows creates visual dynamics.

The composition of the painting evokes an urban environment transformed by the poetic gaze of the artist. The metal bridge in the foreground seems to invite the viewer to enter this city, to explore its hidden spaces and to get lost in its nooks and crannies. The absence of human figures gives the work a certain melancholy, as if Jicé was trying to show a silent city.
