Analysis of the work “Virevolte” by Sylvie Gedda

“Virevolte” is a 30 x 30 cm work created by Sylvie Gedda, and although small in size, it is of remarkable quality, comparable to a precious jewel. This creation perfectly illustrates the artist's mastery in the use of epoxy paste to explore depth, transparencies and plays of light.

Sylvie Gedda, whose grandparents were Russian, German and Italian immigrants, lives and works in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. She has a solid academic background, having studied at the School of Fine Arts in Bordeaux, obtained a degree in visual arts at the Sorbonne University in Paris, and graduated from the Institut Acadomique de Paris. His artistic approach is strongly influenced by these studies, focusing on the interaction between color, light and depth.

“Virevolte” is distinguished by a vibrant and harmonious color palette, dominated by shades of green, blue, yellow and pink, with black and purple accents. Circular shapes and organic patterns mingle and respond to each other, creating a dynamic composition that evokes movement and fluidity. The elements appear to twirl on the canvas, hence the work's name, capturing a captivating visual dance.

The epoxy paste technique, applied in successive layers, creates striking effects of transparency and depth. The varied textures and play of light add an almost three-dimensional dimension to the work, inviting the viewer to explore every detail and discover new nuances with each glance. Although synthetic glass is Gedda's preferred medium, this work on wood demonstrates her ability to manipulate epoxy paste on different supports with great skill. Each layer of color is carefully applied to maximize visual impact and create effects of light and texture that captivate the eye.
