Analysis of the work “The goose that laid the golden eggs”

Kandayin is an artist whose passion for drawing and painting dates back to her childhood. After studying drawing from live models for five years and spending two years at the Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, she continued her artistic development in an autodidact manner. Since 1997, she has taught watercolor, a technique that she masters perfectly thanks to her work on the fusion of water and pigments. Over the past ten years, Kandayin has explored a new perspective on her motifs, moving from a rigorous figurative style to more chaotic and liberated visions that she structures with great skill through the use of dry pastel.

Description and Analysis of the work:

The painting mixes vibrant colors and dynamic shapes, capturing the essence of the subject in a bold and expressive way.

  1. Composition and shapes: The work presents a rich and complex composition, dominated by intertwined geometric and organic shapes. The central figure of the hen is stylized with curved lines and angular shapes, creating a visual balance between chaos and structure. Black outlines delineate each section of the composition, giving depth and a sense of movement.
  2. Colors: The dominant ones are red, blue, yellow and green. These colors attract the eye and highlight the different parts of the work. The orange-red background contrasts with the cooler tones of the subjects, thus reinforcing the visual impact of the piece.
  3. Techniques and Textures: Pastel on textured paper allows the artist to create soft transitions and rich textures. Marouflage on wood or hard support adds stability and durability to the work, ensuring that the colors and shapes remain vivid and well defined over time.
  4. Symbolism and interpretation: “The goose that lays the golden eggs” is a visual interpretation of the famous fable, symbolizing wealth and abundance. The figure of the hen, with its vibrant colors and elaborate shapes, evokes a mythical and precious creature. The eggs' circular designs and stylized eyes add a mystical dimension and draw attention to the symbolism of fertility and prosperity.
  5. Stylistic evolution: This work illustrates the artist's current style which is moving towards an increasingly free and structured expression. The combination of pseudo-chaotic shapes and sharp lines demonstrates his technical mastery and ability to create visually conceptually rich compositions.
