Analysis of the work “Dantesque Suspicion” by Kandayin

Kandayin is an artist whose work reflects a passion nurtured since childhood for art. Here she explores various pictorial materials, such as pastel, watercolor and acrylic. She incorporates unusual materials such as sand and pigmented glue, and transforms her artistic visions into very original works. For several decades, she has strived to structure visions in a dynamic style, which goes beyond simple figurative representations.

Description and analysis of the work: “Dantesque Suspicion” is a work that mixes different mediums to capture an imaginary vision imbued with power and mystery.

  1. Composition and forms: The work presents a dense and energetic composition. The figures look fantastic. The creatures with gaping mouths and piercing eyes are highlighted by thick, black lines.
  2. Colors and texture: Kandayin uses a color palette dominated by hues of blue, beige, pink and ocher. The blue background creates a celestial environment. It accentuates the impression of a scene from an imaginary world. The use of sand and glue with pigments adds structuring to the surface.
  3. Techniques: Mixed technique and dry pastels give the whole a visual softness.
  4. Symbolism and interpretation: In this small work, Kadayin draws his inspiration from the mythological and fantastic universe. The title evokes a reference to the work of Dante Alighieri, famous for his depiction of Hell in The Divine Comedy . The creatures represented could be incarnations of monsters, but above all they illustrate an image to frighten children that one could find in a storybook. A kind of aesthetic fantasy.
